My first art display

After doing these pieces I've learned a lot. Showing artwork, at least for me, is a lot of work and focus is required. It was the perfect motivation I needed to actually put some work in and get some final versions of the sketches I had waiting to be birthed. These pieces aren't necessarily what would go on my shirts exactly, but they are a great foundation for new renderings to be shirt ready. Now all I need is some paper and coins to make it happen. Please feel free to comment and be a constructive critic or give suggestions/input on things. All these pieces are being sold for a fundraiser I am planning so if you are interested in a purchase or just want to support my cause, email me at brettkitt.abel@gmail.com.

The foundation I am supporting is called "A child's voice" and the project where the funds will specifically be going is called "Angel hair for kids." It is a Canadian foundation exclusively focusing on supporting kids in low income families. Angel Hair For Kids is a project that provides wigs for kids going through chemo or who have rare diseases in which they lose all their hair. As a kid it can be fairly devestating to go bald and as a parent it can be fairly devestating to try and afford wigs, which can range in the thousands.

Here is a link to their site to read more on it http://www.acvf.ca/index.php/our-programs/angel-hair-for-kids/.

Enjoy :)

Progress yes

I've finally made contact with 2 companies about getting sample shirts. I will be recieving one shirt from clothes made from scrap and another from eco-gear. I've been having really good conversations with eco-gear and I'm fairly certain we will be sustainably enterprising in no time. There also may be some progress towards having my shirts custom made. It comes down to whether these samples are what I'm looking for in fabric feel and color fastness pre and post washing. It's all happening and I will be updating soon on the progress.

Another news nugget. My clothing company has been legally registered in B.C. Canada as Abel Clothing Crop. Not Corp, Crop. Abel was a brother in a biblical story who happened to be a gardener. Ding.

Keep your ears to the tracks, more to come.

More green shirts baby.

I came across a site that has a list of top recycled t-shirt companies. So here are my favorites and the link to the original source so you can check out the other options available there.

Recycled.ca
These are 100% recycled shirts offered in ash grey and white in bulk only.

eco-gear.ca
100% recycled tees as well as other eco items, with charities attached to sales.
I'm looking into using their shirts for my own designs, but at the moment it appears they only offer shirts printed with their own graphics. I will update whether they offer blanks later.

Van ity

I've been really struggling to find time to get this blog floating and bloated, and here is why. I've come across a lot of interesting sites, but I haven't really had the chance to look into them in detail, because I'm rushing around and I don't feel I want to post anything up without proper research of it.
What it comes down to, as well, is I'm low on money mainly because there are so many things I'll need to be doing in order to get my company legitimate. Also I'm saving up right now to buy a van to live in over the winter, so I can save money to get things really bumping for my label, and save to go to Australia. I haven't ever traveled and I really think it could benefit me artistically and all around as a person. I want to gain perspective and appreciation for the things I have, and the place I live and have lived for my whole life.

Onward and upward.

I haven't been posting on this blog as often as I would like, partly because it's not the easiest task to find new sources for environmental clothing, at least in the realm I am interested. Also I have been a tad lazy poihaps.
I will be putting up more information soon. I get paid this Thursday and I will be doing some Abel related business. Within the next month I will have some graphics up I hope as well. I will have at least one up by th 19th, because I promised a friend I would make him the shirt. I promised a few friends actually, but It'll probably be the same print. SUSPENSE.

Also, not to give my efforts no credit, I have had pretty much zero response from a lot of the companies out there offering green solutions, so tomorrow I will be spending my time calling them in person, because I'm hoping they will respond to a voice more openly than an email. The progress will be posted fellow frolickers.

Good day.
